PAT MOORE
- When did you join Just Fitness and why?
I had lost weight but I knew I was not in good physical condition and Life Change seemed like good program to get me going. I signed up online while I was in London on holidays with my sisters, I had been in touch with Scott a couple of months earlier and had decided to get off my butt and get exercising.
The first 4 weeks were so hard and I swore that I would not join Life Change 2, but then I started getting to know my fellow gym mates and after week 4, I won’t say things got easier, but maybe less hard would be the correct term. When our group moved on to the next program, which is now called JF Lite, it felt like I was getting to play in the big kids play area with all of the barbells and rowers. I spent 6 months in JF Lite learning more about how to move, lift and workout correctly. Once my form and technique was where it needed to be, the coaches said I was good progress to the next level and I moved to the main JF Program and finally got to play with the big kids.
The JF Program was intimidating at first as everyone seemed to be in so much better shape than I was and I did a number of the exercises modified do arthritis in both knees and one of the oldsters who go to the gym, but I started to make some new friends in my 5:30 class and quickly realized that no one judges you but yourself. I am the only one who thinks I should be able to do box jumps instead of step ups, no one else thinks twice about it as they are focused on their own workout, and from Monday to Thursday I go to the 5:30pm class with "the gang". - What programs have you done at Just Fitness?
Life Change 1, Life Change 2, Jf Lite and JF Program. - What results have you seen because of joining Just Fitness?
My cardio has improved so much, I am in so much stronger than I was and the arthritis in my hand is a lot better. I am not as strong as I would like to be but I keep working on it. - What have you gotten out of being a member at Just Fitness that you weren’t expecting?
I did not think I would enjoy lifting weights, but I really do. The friends I have made there are great people and I enjoy working out them. - What is your favourite workout?
I like the strength training workouts, especially Bill’s classes. - Do you have a motivational message for others? (where to start/how to start/a favourite quote)
Get off your butt and go to the gym, especially the days you don't like the workout and think you could just miss it. You can feel even more sanctimonious when you have finished a workout doing some movement you don't enjoy. Even if you don't know anyone in the class, start to talk to the people around you, they are all like you going to the class for the same reason. They want to improve their health and fitness level and no one judge's you but you and just keep doing the best you can. Some days showing up is a big win.
